New mission to deal with French digital issues and culture

The French Minister of Culture Aurélie Filipetti has launched a new mission, piloted by former Canal+ CEO Pierre Lescure, charged to study cultural issues in the digital era.

Aimed at “refounding the tools of our cultural policy”, the mission will exchange with both actors of the cultural world and internet users, in France and abroad.

The three main objectives assigned are to be respect the work of creators and audiences, and to regulate the financial revenues going to creation.

The mission will then encompass various sectors ranging from cinema and music to video games and press. It will study digital taxes, online legal matters as well as formulate the future of Hadopi, the authority charged to fight illicit downloads.

First proposals are expected for March 2013.
