German pay-TV operator Sky Deutschland will market its new low-cost entry package "Sky Starter" for a monthly subscription price of €12.90.

Cable and satellite households in Germany and Austria can sign up for the bouquet from 1 October 2012.

"Sky Starter" which will contain 21 standard-definition channels is mainly designed for viewers who considered Sky subscriptions to be too expensive. "With the 'Sky Starter' package, we create an attractive entry-point to the exciting world of Sky targeting families and interested people who have not yet signed up for pay-TV," said Marcello Maggioni, executive vice-president customer group at Sky Deutschland.

HD channels are only offered in basic package "Sky Welt" which continues to cost €16.90 per month. "Sky Welt" contains 30 channels including 10 HD channels. DTH satellite households obtain another 16 channels free-of-charge if they subscribe to a premium package.

"Sky Welt" is also the precondition if subscribers want to sign up for a Sky premium package offering content such as Bundesliga football, blockbuster movies, sports and HD offerings.
