Ciurana will oversee programming for Univision's broadcast and cable channels, reporting to Univision Networks' president Cesar Conde.

Ciurana, a 34-year TV business veteran, spent 15 years as Televisa's head of programming, in a role that saw him help the channel set a number of local ratings records. Before that, he oversaw Televisa's international operations based in London.

"We are pleased to add a global industry leader like Alberto and his experience, vision and passion for content to the Univision Networks leadership team," said Conde.

"There could not be a better time to join Univision and work with this exceptional team in continuing to evolve our programming and content strategy," said Cuirana.

Univision and Televisa, as sister networks, have shared content and will continue to do so: their most recent content deal extends to 2020. Televisa, considered a Mexican giant in the Hispanic TV landscape, has a 5% stake in Univision.
