TVN holds back on HbbTV

The Polish national commercial broadcaster TVN has decided not to provide HbbTV services for its viewers for the foreseeable future.

According to Wirtualne Media, this follows the completion of tests involving the proprietary channel TVN HD, via DTT from Warsaw’s Palace of Culture, which began on March 2.

TVN has indicated that its decision not to pursue HbbTV at this stage is the lack of reach such services would have.

This contrasts with the position being undertaken by the public broadcaster TVP, which following two months of trials launched an HbbTV service via DTT to cover the Euro 2012 competition.

It has since launched several more hybrid applications and entered into a strategic partnership with Sony.
