European international news channel euronews is transforming into a worldwide news hub and aims at rethinking its editorial model to turn “glocal.”

The station is now betting on providing global news but tailored with specific grids and content owing to different geographical areas.

In a worldwide press conference, live streamed into 20 international cities and entitled “Survive and thrive in the media universe”, the European channel, which turns 20 in 2013, announced the opening of euronews Greece and the 2012 and Euronews Hungary in March of 2013. Each channel will hire 40 people.

“The media industry is radically transforming and we need to adapt, CEO Michael Peters commented. Euronews must provide the good content, in the right place and at the right time, on all platforms. The key objective is to meet with the user’s experience. We’ve passed from the marketing of offer to the marketing of demand (egocasting).”

During the conference, not less than 20 announcements were made.

The channel is also opening new permanent offices in Washington, Istanbul and Dubai so as to count a total of 14 editorial offices worldwide.

euronews also looks forward inking multiple international partnerships such as the ones signed with ABC News on the US elections and Band News in Brazil. The various members will become part of the new euronews Network.

The channel, whose commercial revenues now account for half of its global turnover, hires 800 people including 400 reporters. One hundred new collaborators are set to be recruited in the coming months according to Michael Peters.

The channel will join its new modern headquarters in Lyons in 2013.
