Leading media content protection firm The Kudelski Group has divested itself from its Abilis Systems Sŕrl division in a deal with ALi Corporation.
Based in Geneva, Abilis is a fabless semiconductor company providing RF modulators, secure media processors and broadcast-to-IP solutions and seems an excellent fit for Taiwan’s professional IC design company ALi who provides digital set top box (STB) solutions.
Kudelski and ALi are assuring Abilis customers that they have put in place a security framework whereby the new owner will actively support Kudelski in protecting pay-TV content across the set-top box value chain. The two firms have also agreed to integrate Kudelski’s flagship Nagra On-Chip Security (NOCS) onto ALi’s lines of chipsets that will see use in set-top boxes and modules for pay-TV operators.
ALi envisions that STB powered with its chips and embedded with NOCS will be available to operators in 2013.
