CTC Media has switched the broadcasting format of its three Russian channels – CTC, Peretz and Domashny – from MPEG-2 to MPEG-4.
As part of the move, the satellite fleet used for the uplink of the channels has also been modified and the capacity previously leased from Russian satellites to the new Intelsat 15 and Horizons 2 foreign satellites.
Significantly, the new satellites are in almost the same orbit, which means that if one of them fails receiving antennas will not require repositioning.
CTC Media lists MTG as its largest shareholder and also has a presence in Kazakhstan and Moldova.
It also operates an international channel and has production company named Story First Production.
