Bolivia’s Telephone Cooperative Federation (FECOTEL) has confirmed the appointment of Empresa Nacional de Telecomunicaciones (Entel), and Comteco TuVes HD as legally authorised to provide DTH service nationwide in the country.
The confirmation, by Pedro Solares, a member of the Technical Committee and manager FECOTEL regulation of Cochabamba Telecommunications Cooperative (Comteco), comes after a decision to allow TV operators to change the encryption of their DTH receiving equipment. This move is intended to halt the spread of using illegally modified free to air boxes to receive encrypted signals.
It is thought that as a result of this, 5,000 antennae and satellite TV decoders nationwide are no longer functional.
