TV JAPAN looks to boost U.S. viewership with free preview

TV JAPAN, which broadcasts such fare as live sumo wrestling, bilingual news, historical dramas in Japanese and more throughout North America and Hawaii, is partnering up with cable, satellite and IPTV operators to offer a free preview in the first two weeks of November as part of a comprehensive viewer acquisition effort.
The two-week free preview event will run 1-15 November, and will kick off a three-month TV JAPAN campaign entitled "Connect More," which will also feature a rebate offer, referral campaign and sweepstakes. Consumers can enter the sweepstakes via TV JAPAN's website by visiting www.tvjapan.net and completing a short survey. Prizes for the sweepstakes will include tickets to screenings held in New York and Los Angeles of Bayside Shakedown: The Final, as well as a roundtrip vacation package to Japan and an HDTV.
For the preview, International Media Distribution has negotiated with a range of operators to provide open access during this promotional viewing opportunity, including No. 1 U.S. cable MSO Comcast, Time Warner Cable, Cox, Verizon FiOS, AT&T U-verse, Frontier Communications and a range of regional TV providers.
TV JAPAN is planning to broadcast several special programmes, such as the 1998 classic Bayside Shakedown, and drama series Blackboard. Other highlights include several shows that premiered in October, such as drama serials Jun & Ai, Legal High, season 10 of the popular drama Partners, variety shows like VS Arashi and GOCHI Dinner is on YOU Tonight!, and others.
The three month referral and rebate campaign will run from 1 November 1 to 31 January 31. Sweetening the pot even further, TV JAPAN is offering new subscribers are eligible for a $25 rebate, as are those who refer a friend to subscribe to TV JAPAN.
