Zeppotron management shakeup no laughing matter
Editor | 02-11-2012
Endemol subsidiary and leading independent comedy producer Zeppotron has announced a series of senior management changes to further grow and diversify the company’s output, which spans comedy, entertainment and drama.
Company co-founder and Creative Director Peter Holmes and Head of Comedy Ruth Phillips are stepping up to become Joint Managing Directors of Zeppotron while current MD Annabel Jones will be taking a new role to focus exclusively on scripted projects. Phillips, Holmes and Jones take up their new roles with immediate effect. All three report directly to Lucas Church, CEO of Endemol UK and Tim Hincks in his capacity as Chairman of Endemol UK.
The move follows the success of recent series authored by award winning author, journalist and now TV writer Charlie Brooker and Executive Produced by Jones including Channel 4’s Rose d’Or Award winning Black Mirror, which has been sold to 16 countries and commissioned for a second series; and Sky One’s two-part spoof crime drama A Touch of Cloth.
Annabel Jones has been Managing Director of Zeppotron since July 2004 and during this time has overseen a period of sustained growth and diversification at the company. Jones was also formerly Endemol UK's Head of Business Development and before that headed up Endemol UK's M&A team as well as working on strategy for the UK group.
Explaining the reasons behind the move, Jones said: “I’ve loved being in the MD role at Zeppotron but our scripted output is growing to a point where it needs a standalone resource and this is what I’m keen to focus on with Charlie. We have exciting plans ahead and look forward to revealing more in due course.” Ruth Phillips added: “Zeppotron’s successes all have three things in common – ideas that really excite us, meticulous producers, and the very best on screen talent.”
