TV sets with 3D capability and connected TV sets taking Internet services to the TV screen continue to become increasingly popular in Western Europe, according to a report by German consumer electronics industry association gfu with reference to the latest GfK figures.
The market researcher expects a total of almost 10 million 3DTV sets to be sold in the 10 largest European TV markets - including Germany, the UK, France, Italy and Spain - in 2012, twice as many as in 2011. The figure is predicted to rise to 12.5 million in 2013.
The number of connected TV sets sold in 2012 will climb by 30% to more than 13 million. In 2013, GfK expects an increase by 22% to over 16 million.
At €21 billion, the turnover generated through TV set sales will be at the 2012 level in 2013, just like the total number of TV sets sold (almost 42 million).
