Czech cable tax headache

The Czech cable industry is voicing concerns over a new law that would require it to contribute 1% of annual turnover to a cinematography fund.

In a wide ranging interview with Digizone, Petr Bárta, the head of the mid-sized operated Elsat, said that the legislation, which now only requires the president’s signature and could come into effect as soon as the beginning of next year, discriminates against cable and its customers.

If enacted, some larger operators would be required to pay up to CZK1 million (€40,000) a year towards Czech cinematography.
