Less than a week after a senior management overhaul in which it promised to further grow and diversify the company’s output, especially in comedy, Zeppotron has won a commission from the BBC to produce a brand new topical comedy show.
‘Weekly Wipe with Charlie Brooker’ (w/t) has been ordered for a 6 x 30’ series by Janice Hadlow, Controller, BBC Two, and Chris Sussman, BBC Executive Editor, Comedy.
The new series will focus on events in the world of news, politics and culture. Brooker—s a former prolific and acerbic print journalist who has turned his attention to TV with strong of satirical and biting programmes and lately dramas—will digest newspaper headlines, TV shows, adverts, films, books, computer games, product launches, social media sensations and You Tube phenomena. Each programme will include studio chat, sketches, VTs and amusing archive. Charlie will be joined in the studio by a couple of celebrity guests and experts for a topical discussion with a difference, and regular contributors on VT.
‘2012 with Charlie Brooker’ also returns for its annual Christmas show with an hour-long round-up of the events that have happened in the world of news, television, games and film over the past 12 months such as the London Olympics to the Diamond Jubilee, the US election to Hurricane Sandy.
‘Weekly Wipe with Charlie Brooker’ and ‘2012 with Charlie Brooker’ will be Executive Produced for the BBC by Chris Sussman, Executive Editor Comedy and by Annabel Jones for the Endemol subsidiary who in the management shakeup was given a new role to focus exclusively on scripted projects.
