YouTube streams video across Android, Google TV for connected home strategy

YouTube is bolstering its connected home strategy by making it easier to play videos from a phone or tablet on a TV, with a YouTube app update for Android and Google TV that automatically pairs devices on the same Wi-Fi network.

“Users can find a video on the YouTube app — like the latest video from GoPro or H+ The Digital Series — click the TV icon that appears, and the video will play instantly on your Google TV,” explained Timbo Drayson, YouTube product manager, on the company blog.
Like a remote control, consumers can pause, scroll or skip to the next video with their mobile device as it plays on the TV. Since devices are connected in the cloud, viewers can also do things like find the next video to watch from a tablet or browse around the Web on a phone, all while the video plays on TV. Viewers also can connect multiple devices to the TV to have friends add to the playlist through the cloud.
