Video discovery, delivery, display and monetisation technology services provider Rovi has launched what it calls the first software package to support the DivX Plus Streaming adaptive streaming format.
The DivX Plus Software package comprises four individual components: the DivX Plus Player, the DivX Plus Web Player, the DivX Plus Codec Pack, and the DivX Plus Converter. The DivX Plus Player includes the DivX To Go feature, which enables transfer of videos from the computer to DivX devices including HDTVs, Blu-ray Disc players, gaming consoles, and mobile phones.
The new DivX Plus Software enables video creation and streaming, and the new multi-component X Plus Software is said to support faster video conversion, output to iPhone and iPad, as well as streaming to DLNA-compatible home electronics.
DivX Plus Streaming support has gained the backing of major studios, retailers, and the CE industry for delivering a feature set with support for 1080p, subtitles, multiple language tracks, and trick-play functions such as smooth fast forward and rewind.
“DivX Plus Software is an important element of the DivX ecosystem and was created to enable consumers to enjoy their favourite video entertainment on their terms **– when and where they choose and in the highest possible quality,” said Matt Milne, executive vice president worldwide sales and marketing, Rovi.
