Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH has announced it has finalised the enhancement of the Hessischer Rundfunk (HR HF) broadcast complex in Frankfurt / Main.
MCI provides consulting, planning and construction services for TV, radio, media and event projects throughout the world and in April 2012, had been commissioned by HR to modernise four broadcast complexes in the Frankfurt / Main base including the option to modernise a fifth. The complexes has been originally built in 1999, and following continuous use had, said NCI “met the limits of today’s technology and functionality,” this making a conversion to current technology unavoidable.
As the general contractor, MCI was responsible for the supply, the installation, the initial operation, and the documentation as well training courses for use on the new equipment to be applied in the four new broadcast complexes. Each complex exists of two one-man studios, a production area, a support area and a multifunctional area. The four complexes are almost identically equipped, whereby flexibility in the editorial process is explicitly enhanced.
HR decided to use SERIX audio mixer (Mandozzi), with a total of 16 audio mixers connected by a redundant designed IDEA audio matrix. In each broadcast complex a Draco tera KVW matrix was applied (IHSE). The already existing broadcast automation system (d’accord) is still used and interfaces are accordingly adjusted. All furniture is customised and has been fabricated by the MCI workshops.
Broadcasts from hr1, hr2, hr3 and hr INFO will continue so that the rebuild could take place in two stages of construction on-site. Before the installation, each broadcast complex is gutted.
The first two broadcasting complexes will be presented to the HR for test operation in February 2013, the two following presumably in March 2014.
