Germany's federal anti-trust authority Bundeskartellamt has approved the takeover of commercial TV broadcaster Das Vierte ('The fourth') by US media company Walt Disney, according to a report by German media magazine New Business.
Disney announced the planned purchase of the Munich-based free-to-air channel in September 2012. As the anti-media concentration commission KEK has also given the takeover the green light, the transaction can now take place.
Das Vierte was previously owned by Russian media entrepreneur Dmitry Lesnevsky who purchased the entertainment channel, founded in 2005, from NBC Universal in 2008. He had been looking for a new investor for several months.
