beActive launches beActive TV VOD app for iOS, Android smartphones and tablets

In a bid to significantly extend the reach of its activities covering TV and film co-productions, digital content production and format development, transmedia production company beActive has launched the beActive TV app for smart phones and tablets.

Supporting both iOS and Android operating systems and available free of charge at the Apple App Store and on Google Play Store, the app will allow users on-demand access to beActive's recent content such as that shown on its YouTube network of channels that beActive launched on in the spring of 2012. The company claims that these have already attracted over four million views.

The app allows consumers to view content, subscribe to series (and get a notification when new episodes are available), share favourite episodes with friends and family through social networks and have access to additional content that complements the series, such as eBooks, comics and games.

Specific beActive TV content includes the Web series based on feature film The Knot which beActive and Universal debuted in the UK and Ireland in October 2012, Girl Heart Boy, co-produced with Penguin Books UK, exclusive behind-the-scenes footage from the music series Beat Girl, and sci-fi programme Collider.

Over 30% of viewers of beActive's TV network on YouTube consume content on mobile devices already, and the app launch is expected to have an impact on the growth of that community, providing a response to what the company sees as a paradigm shift in the way that viewers consume TV, from a linear experience to an on-demand experience.

Looking beyond the mobile app, beActive is in the final stages of beta testing the same application for connected TVs, which will allow the company to distribute its content directly to the viewers' living room.
