Astra satellite operator SES is to deploy the channels on its German HDTV platform HD+ to mobile devices such as the iPad.

To this end, the satellite signals will be distributed within the local home network of customers' homes.

"Multi-room solutions are absolutely part of HD+," HD Plus managing director Wilfried Urner told German industry magazine Infosat (22 December 2012). Technically, the solution will be based on the new standard SAT-IP through which DVB signals can be converted into IP streams.

"The distribution of encrypted signals has been a feature of SAT-IP from the outset," explained Urner. "We will show the first examples of this next year."

HD+ contains the HD versions of German commercial free-to-air channels such as RTL, Sat.1 and ProSieben. Access to the encrypted platform costs €50 per year, with the first 12 months being free of charge.
