Romania’s RCS&RDS has issued a statement clarifying why it is no longer carrying Discovery channels on its Digi TV network.
In it, the company says it cannot do so as the fees Discovery charges are three times higher than those by similar channels, while its audience share is only about 1%.
It also says that as the fees charged have always been in dollars, they have continuously increased over the years in terms of local currency and are now three times higher now then they were in 2005.
RCS&RDS adds that Discovery also refused its offer to create a separate package featuring all its channels that would only be available to subscribers who wished to receive it.
RCS&RDS is the leading cable and DTH operator in Romania and also has a presence in five other CEE markets.
