French pay-TV group Canal+ could be interested in taking over pay-DTT distributor TV Numeric, which was placed into receivership last October, reports the BFM TV website.
This acquisition would allow Canal+ to enrich its portfolio with TV Numeric's 35,000 subs, who receive five channels including Eurosport, Paris Première, LCI, Planète+ and TF6, for €10 per month.
The company, which cumulated €39 million losses over the last three years, is the latest victim of the failure of pay-DTT in France, which has never really taken off.
Several channels such as Canal j, AB1 and CFoot, had left the offer in recent years as they found no successful economic model into pay-DTT.
The receivership doesn't include the video DTT offer SelecTV, the launch of which has previously been announced many times. The service has not kicked off yet, however, owing to the parent company's difficult position. BFM TV adds that SelecTV could be acquired separately.
