BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – With relatively little action taking place during the Thanksgiving Holiday, Bloomsburg was the lone new entrant into the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll, released on Tuesday.
Coach John Stutzman’s Huskies enter the poll for the first time this season at No. 25 after a 3-0 weekend with wins against Hofstra, Princeton and Drexel.
“It’s a good measuring stick early in the year,” Stutzman said. “We have a lot of work to do and our toughest part of the season is on the horizon. We want to continue to build on the season and get NCAA Champions, All Americans.”
Bloomsburg moved in after North Dakota State fell out of the top 25 following an 18-17 loss to Eastern Michigan. Bloomsburg joins fellow Eastern Wrestling League teams Edinboro and Pittsburgh in the top 25.
The top 10 remained unchanged as Minnesota received seven of the 10 possible first-place votes to remain No. 1. Two-time national champion Penn State was again second, receiving the other three first-place votes.
The Big Ten claimed six of the top 10 spots and nine of the top 25. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, representing the Big 12, are ranked third and 10th, while the ACC has three teams ranked.
Virginia Tech moved up to No. 11 after beating No. 17 Virginia 25-6, leapfrogging Central Michigan. Virginia remained 17th, and Maryland remained one spot ahead at No. 16.
Purdue flip-flopped over idle Kent State to move up to No. 22, while Old Dominion moved up one spot to No. 24.
