Movie News: Empire Strikes Back Vet On Board For New Star Wars Movies

November 27, 2012

No sooner had Disney and Lucasfilm announced that their $4 billion alliance would produce at least three more Star Wars films than the internet began wild speculation about who would be involved and in what capacity. And while many rumors have been dismissed, several confirmations have already been made.

Just last week, Toy Story 3 writer Michael Arndt was confirmed to be chipping away at the script for Star Wars: Episode VII, which is due in 2015. However, not resting on their laurels, Disney and Lucasfilm have already announced a fan-pleasing writer/producer team for Episodes VIII and IX in the form of Lawrence Kasden and Simon Kinberg.
While Kinberg has earned his bona fides with recent hits like Sherlock Holmes and X-Men: First Class, it is Kasden’s name that has long time fans most excited. Directly responsible for the final Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark scripts, Kasden is apparently already hard at work on shaping the Star Wars Universe once again.
The new films have been said to take place several years after Jedi. Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford have publicly noted that reprising their iconic roles is not out of the question.
