Swiss media company Ringier has confirmed that it will launch its own TV channel next year.
"Ringier wants to stay in the TV business," CEO Marc Walder told Swiss newspaper SonntagsZeitung.
"Energy is a wonderful brand through which we address a young, attractive audience with radio and concerts. That's why we will launch our new TV channel in Switzerland as Energy-TV," said Walder.
The venture will be operated in conjunction with the French NRJ group with whom Ringier already operates the local radio stations Energy Zürich, Energy Bern and Energy Basel. "The operating company will be Energy Schweiz AG in which we hold 65%," explained Walder. "35% is owned by Energy group in Paris."
Energy-TV will be an interactive music channel "with the best hits for a young, urban audience," said Walder. "We will also integrate the various other channels and, of course, the many events from Energy."
Regarding distribution, Ringier has opted for a partnership with national Swiss telco Swisscom which will exclusively carry the channel on its IPTV platform Swisscom TV which reaches around 750,000 customers.
"The launch date is still open," said Walder. "But we will launch early next year." Ringier's TV ambitions were disclosed a week ago.
