After acquiring Cablevision Paraguay from the Argentinean group Clarín last July, Tigo has officially launched its pay-TV service in the country and announced double play offers.

Tigo TV will also offer two of the most important soccer matches of the week in HD and will have a total of 18 channels in high definition, according to NexTV Latam.

Tom Gutjahr, Tigo's general manager, recently announced that it has added a new HD channel (TruTV) and will soon have more signals of this kind. The HD channel schedule includes Tigo TV Eventos, ESPN, ESPN 3, Fox Sports, National Geographic Channel, Discovery Theater, History, TLC, Cinecanal, FOX, TNT, Space, A&E, Sony, Universal Channel, TruTV and the premium channels HBO and Moviecity. Furthermore, the basic digital pay-TV package has a total of 98 channels.

The double play service (TV and Internet) will be provided through the same cable in Asuncion, Luque, Fernando de la Mora, San Lorenzo and Lambare.

In July 2012, the Swedish telecommunications group Millicom International Cellular, under the Tigo brand, signed a deal to acquire 100% of pay-TV operator Cablevision Paraguay. The US$150 million operation included the transfer of rights over Unicanal and the company Teledeportes, which has exclusivity rights for Paraguayan soccer broadcast.
