Cable & Wireless Communication's (CWC) Caribbean division, LIME, is rolling out a hybrid TV service that gives LIME subscribers access to more than 130 linear channels as well as over-the-top (OTT) services via a single user interface.

"By leveraging the Internet to deliver a pay-TV service that bundles live content and OTT services, we can further strengthen our broadband value while also increasing our revenue opportunity," said Dianne Bissoon, vice president of TV and Entertainment at LIME.

The service leverages Entone's FusionTV solution as its engine, employing both adaptive bitrate (ABR) and HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technologies for delivery across various network conditions.

"Entone's FusionTV solution allows us to offer a superior entertainment experience to all our customers while also enabling us to quickly rollout new services across our entire broadband footprint without changing set tops," added Bissoon.

LIME's basic TV service channel lineup includes programs from major U.S. networks such as ABC, CBS and NBC, sports from ESPN, music from MTV, children's channel Nickelodeon, as well as news and lifestyle programs from Warner Brothers and BBC America. LIME has also launched LIMEstyle, its own channel for showcasing its latest products, services and promotions.

"Pay-TV is an important component of the communication services bundle, and helps operators gain and retain subscribers," said Aditya Kishore, senior analyst at Heavy Reading. "However, a pay-TV service using traditional IPTV technology is not always practical for every operator. As such, operators need to look at innovative hybrid video delivery approaches in order to stay competitive and grow their revenue."
