BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Virginia Wesleyan is now No. 1 in the poll released on Tuesday.
VWC took over the No. 1 position, replacing MIT. The Engineers were bounced out of the top spot by Rhode Island College, which recorded a 68-44 win on November 29. MIT dropped 18 spots to No. 18 in this week’s poll.

Virginia Wesleyan improved to 5-0 following Sunday’s 85-64 victory against Frostburg State and has been ranked No. 2 for two consecutive weeks.
The Marlins received 13 first-place votes. Wisconsin-Whitewater, the defending national champion, garnered 10 first-place votes to take the No. 2 spot, and Middlebury earned one vote to take the No. 3 spot. The remaining first-place vote went to St. Thomas (Minn.), which is ranked No. 5.
The Marlins started last season at No. 1 and finished at No. 5 after advancing to the national final eight and falling to Whitewater. The Marlins were also No. 1 to start the 2006-07 season after finishing the 2005-06 season as the national champion.
