This, according to Greg Dale, EVP International, comScore, puts the country in second place globally after Singapore.
Speaking in presentation on social TV adoption, Dale also said that one in five minutes online is now spent on social networks.
In the UK, nearly 9 million people use mobiles each month to access Facebook and 1.3 million Twitter.
The figures for Zeebox and GetGlue are meanwhile 40,000 and 9,000 respectively.
In total, 82% of the digital population use social networks and there are 31 million smartphone and 5.5 million tablet users among a population of 60 million TV users.
Interestingly, women are heavy smartphone users and 22.8% of tablet users in the UK are aged 55 and upwards.
