In the latest of a series of moves designed to inject vigour into the content proposition of its IPTV service, BT Vision has signed a channel deal with Universal Networks International (UNI), the international channels division of NBCUniversal.

Under the terms of the deal, BT Vision will add Universal Channel, Syfy and E! Entertainment to its linear line-up. The three channels to be streamed live in the coming weeks, and from early 2013 customers will also be able to watch specific programmes on-demand.

The perceived lack of compelling content has dogged BT Vision to date, and the addition of the UNI content is part of a strategy to address this, adding to a roster which now includes Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, Real Time, British Eurosport 1 and 2, FX, National Geographic, National Geographic WILD and UKTV's Gold, Watch and Alibi.

Programmes now available from Universal Channel will include Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Criminal Intent, as well as Rookie Blue and Flashpoint. Syfy will offer dramas such as Haven and Warehouse 13, Continuum and paranormal investigation series Fact or Faked, while celebrity, entertainment news and popular culture channel E! will provide the reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians plus Fashion Police with Joan Rivers.

Commenting on the latest additions to the IPTV service's slate, Marc Watson, BT's chief executive of TV, said: "Universal Channel, Syfy and E! make a fantastic contribution to our channels offering at launch ... as we expand the number of channels available soon for BT Vision customers, we hope that there will be something there for everyone. We will cater for drama lovers, comedy addicts and sports fans in equal measure. We are not finished yet and we will be announcing some more much-loved channels to complete our roster."

Added Laurence Dawkin-Jones, UK MD, Universal Networks International: "We are delighted to be able to bring BT Vision customers three of our core channel brands and the range of high calibre programming they boast. From exclusive hit dramas to the world's most talked about reality series, our channels will make a unique and compelling contribution to the BT Vision offering."
