Kabel Deutschland's acquisition in danger

Fears are surfacing that Germany's federal antitrust authority Bundeskartellamt may block Kabel Deutschland's planned takeover of the smaller cable company Tele Columbus.

The competition authority has informed Kabel Deutschland that it has objections against the acquisition, the cable operator said in a statement. Further details were not given.

Kabel Deutschland said that it will thoroughly analyse the concerns and compile a statement. It will also evaluate how the concerns can be addressed through concessions and provide the cartel office with a corresponding proposal.

Kabel Deutschland announced the purchase of Tele Columbus in May 2012. The cable operator serves around 1.7 million households with TV, Internet and telephony, mainly in Berlin and Germany's eastern federal states.
