UPSTAR upgrades video transport for added capacity

ZON Multimedia and Angolan satellite TV group SOCIP joint venture UPSTAR Comunicacoes has embarked upon a major overhaul of its video transport infrastructure with greater channel capacity, longer distance transport and increased redundancy.
To facilitate the project, UPSTAR engaged managed broadcast video services provider Nevion who provided a multi-product solution based on the Flashlink optical transport family. This offered increased channel capacity without adding electrical-to-optical conversion or wavelengths and included 3G time division multiplexers/demultiplexers, enabling additional signal contribution through DWDM infrastructure, as well as a redundant fibre link for signal transport in excess of 150km.
"Nevion was able to look closely at our needs and design a streamlined system that offered all the expanded services we needed while working within our current infrastructure and minimising the hardware required," said Luis Henriques, technical director at UPSTAR. "It's a system that can grow as we do and allow even greater future expansion."
