The Red Sox on Thursday announced a number of promotions and hires within their baseball operations department.
Starting with baseball operations, Boston promoted Jared Banner from coordinator of amateur scouting to assistant director of player personnel and Mike Murov from assistant in baseball operations to the coordinator of baseball operations.
The club also made the following three promotions within the player development wing of the franchise: Tim Hyers from the club's area scout in Georgia to the new Minor League hitting coordinator, George Lombard from manager in the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League to Minor League outfield and baserunning coordinator and Duncan Webb from the role of player development programs coordinator to the assistant director of player development. Laz Gutierrez will assume Webb's previous role of player development programs coordinator.
The Red Sox also made a number of personnel moves when it comes to scouting at the amateur, professional and international levels.
In the amateur scouting department, Mike Rikard was named the national scouting coordinator after spending the past three years as the Red Sox's national crosschecker. That crosschecker position will be filled by John Booher, who spent last season as the Rangers' southeast crosschecker.
Quincy Boyd and Jim Robinson were both promoted to regional crosscheckers from their positions as area scouts. Boston also named four new area scouts to fill those voids: Tom Kotchman (Northern Florida), Brian Moehler (Georgia), John Pyle (Ohio Valley) and Willie Romay (Southern Florida).
On the professional level, Steve Peck was promoted to special assignment scout after serving as a professional scout in the Red Sox's organization since 2009. Fellow professional scout Dave Klipstein also received a promotion, becoming the club's Major League scout. To help fill those voids, the organization named Anthony Turco, who has served as an amateur scout for the past six years, a professional scout.
Lastly, in the international scouting department, Boston promoted Victor Rodriguez Jr. to area supervisor and Dominican Republic crosschecker from his previous position as a scout in the Dominican Republic. The club also hired a number of other international scouts, which include Wilder Lobo, Ramon Mora and Alex Requena (Venezuela), Carlos Lugo (Dominican Republic), Dennis Neuman (Curacao and Aruba) and David Tapia (Mexico).
