PHILADELPHIA -- Washington Redskins kicker Kai Forbath on Sunday set the NFL record for consecutive field goals to begin a career with 17 straight.
Forbath kicked field goals of 45 and 42 yards in the first half against the Philadelphia Eagles. Garrett Hartley had kicked 16 straight for the New Orleans Saints.
Forbath was Washington's choice after Billy Cundiff missed 5 of 12 attempts to start the season. He won an off-day tryout over retread veterans Olindo Mare and Josh Brown.
Forbath won the Lou Groza Award as the nation's top kicker as a junior at UCLA in 2009.
