German jewellery shopping channel Gems TV, which was operated by German home shopping network Channel 21 and only launched three months ago, has closed down.
As a stand-alone channel, Gems TV didn't manage to achieve the turnover success of main service Channel 21, explained managing director Klaus Skripalle. Therefore, the decision was made to discontinue the joint venture with UK-based parent company The Genuine Gemstone Company.
Channel 21 now wants to focus on its main service and integrate jewellery sales into its main channel, which reaches around 32 million TV households via cable, satellite and DTT.
All orders place at Gems TV will still be fulfilled, according to the broadcaster, and the customer service will remain available by telephone until 31 March 2013.
Gems TV emerged out of Channel 21 Express in October 2012. The channel, which was distributed to DTH satellite households via Astra (19.2° East), offered gemstone jewellery through auctions with falling prices.
