The San Diego Chargers have hired Ron Wolf as a consultant to help lead their search for a new general manager.

A.J. Smith and Norv Turner were fired Monday.

San Diego's search will be run by a four-man committee: President/Chairman Dean Spanos, director of college scouting John Spanos, assistant GM Ed McGuire and Wolf. The GM will then join in the process of searching for the next head coach.

Dean Spanos told that he first talked to Wolf "eight or nine days ago", after being put in touch by a mutual friend, and that after speaking a few times, agreed to move forward. Wolf's first day will be Tuesday, and Spanos said he sees Wolf as "a very, very credible person who's well-respected in the league."
