The Buffalo Bills have asked permission to interview Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported. The Bills fired coach Chan Gailey on Monday. General manager Buddy Nix is safe.

McCoy has run the Broncos' offense for four seasons, and he and quarterback Peyton Manning transformed the unit into one of the NFL's best. Denver finished the regular season ranked No. 3 in scoring offense, No. 4 in total offense and No. 5 in passing offense.

The Bears also have asked permission to speak to McCoy about their head-coaching job.
