KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Georgia’s Laura Ryan won the platform competition on Saturday as the Tennessee Diving Invitational came to a close.
Ryan posted a score of 312.35 on her five-dive list to take top honors by more than 24 points. Ryan recorded a score of 70.40 on her inward 3.5 somersault tuck immediately after a disappointing 44.55 on her back 3.5 somersault tuck.
Entering the weekend, Ryan owned the SEC’s top effort of the year on tower with 312.95 points.
Ann-Perry Blank took sixth with 236.45 points, followed by Darcie O’Brien in 18th with 200.05 points and Kelly Thatcher in 28th with 154.35 points.
“[Saturday]was great,” Georgia diving coach Dan Laak said. “Laura did a spectacular job. The four dives she hit were really, really good, and the one she missed was only a little off and she’s been doing it well in practice so I’m not worried. If she had hit that one, she really would have distanced herself.
“Ann-Perry dove great considering she did three new dives. She wowed a lot of people with them. When she puts them all together, she’ll be right up there. Darcie went over 200 for the second time and she’s getting more consistent, and Kelly was solid with only her second tower list. All in all, I’m very pleased with how the day went for us.”
