Auto Show partners with local TV station for multiscreen charity coverage

The North American International Auto Show has named Scipps-owned WXYZ-TV as the official television partner of the 2013 NAIAS Charity Preview, a black-tie fundraiser in south-eastern Michigan.

Celebrities, business leaders, and top industry executives will join WXYZ to celebrate Detroit's automotive industry and raise funds for local children's charities. Since 1976, the Charity Preview has raised more than $87 million for south-eastern Michigan children's charities, more than $49 million of which was raised in the past ten years alone.

"WXYZ is honoured to be given this important distinction," said Ed Fernandez, Scripps divisional vice-president and WXYZ vice-president and general manager. "We are excited to once again contribute to the success of this premiere automotive event through our extensive coverage on-air, on the Web and on mobile. We are also pleased to offer auto show visitors a day of fun activities at WXYZ's Family Day event."

WXYZ will broadcast Red Carpet Charity Preview, a live 90-minute special beginning at 7pm on Friday 18 January. 7 Action News anchors Stephen Clark and Carolyn Clifford will host the programme, along with 7 Action News anchors JoAnne Purtan, Alicia Smith, Vic Faust , Tom Leyden and Erin Nicole. The show will feature interviews with top automotive executives, the latest in high fashion from the show floor and sneak peeks at the vehicles and interactive displays visitors will be able to see at NAIAS. and the station's mobile apps will provide companion coverage with photo galleries and red carpet access.

Throughout the show, WXYZ will provide complete auto show coverage on and through WXYZ mobile apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices, as well as all other smartphones and tablets.
