FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME), the commercial arm of FremantleMedia, has acquired the rights to adapt the French supernatural thriller series Les Revenants to English.

Under the working title They Came Back, the English version will be produced by the writer, creator and producer Paul Abbott and his company AbbottVision, with which FME has a first-look deal. FME will distribute the English adaptation internationally. No broadcast partner has been announced as yet.

Originally developed as a feature film, Les Revenants was adapted for pay-TV Canal+ by producers Haut and Court TV. The series launched in autumn 2012, attracting an average audience of 1.4 million across the eight one-hour episodes. It is to date the most-watched Canal+ original series.

Les Revenants tells the story of a group of men, women and children in a small Alpine village in the shadow of a vast dam, who try to return to their homes. What they don't realise is that they have been dead for several years, and no one is expecting them back.
