Virgin Media has confirmed the launch of TCM HD and Cartoon Network HD on its cable TV platform.

Available immediately, TCM HD is the movies channel of Turner Broadcasting, airing a range of classic and contemporary films, whilst Cartoon Network HD offers a slate of popular children’s shows such as Ben 10, Adventure Time, The Amazing World of Gumball and Star Wars: The Clone Wars in extra detail.

With the launches, Virgin Media now offers 39 high definition channels on its platform, but that still lags behind rival Sky, which currently offers 65 HD channels to its subscribers.

Under Virgin’s deal with Turner Broadcasting, the company will also add a range of content from Cartoon Network, Cartoonito and Boomerang to its Virgin TV Anywhere service available across a range of devices, as well as 3D content later in the year.
