Players Network taps Ascent to engineer digital content distribution platform

Players Network (PNTV) has turned to software engineering firm Ascent Solutions to develop the company's next-generation proprietary broadband-based content distribution and social media platform.
PNTV will use the platform to distribute licensed and original content on its multiple branded lifestyle video channels for viewing by simultaneous users on all digital devices. Players Network's original Vegas On Demand channel, for instance, is distributed in more than 27 million television homes over Comcast, DirecTV, AT&T, Verizon and DISH Network, and worldwide on its own online channel destination, as well as on Hulu, Blinkx, Sling Media, Google, YouTube and Yahoo Video; and for DVD Home Video, mobile platforms, and through worldwide television syndication.
It has designed the platform to help content companies monetise their digital wares with variety of methods, including subscription, merchandising, micro-transactions and targeted advertising.
As a part of this development agreement, the company's software will also be managed by Ascent Solutions and hosted at Switch Communication, the largest data centre in the world located in Las Vegas.
