Insolvent Berlin city broadcaster has been rescued, with local media authority Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg (MABB) providing the new shareholder Godd Media Broadcast with a broadcast licence to continue running the channel.
Godd Media is owned equally by Ms Seyhan Yigit and Mr Medet Bozkurt. According to MABB, the company has signed a contract with's insolvency administrator to take over operations and staff. Godd Media plans to integrate topics addressing the Turkish and Russian communities in its German language programme schedule.
"With the continuation, we open the chance for keeping and expanding the workplaces and the contribution to variety of a local TV channel for Berlin," said Jutta Limbach, chairwoman of MABB's media council.
The former owner of, Berlin 1 Fernsehen Beteiligungsgesellschaft, filed for insolvency at the end of 2012 as the income generated from local advertisements didn't cover the costs of operating the channel.
