Bay TV Liverpool scores local TV licence

As the UK local TV licence allocation process draws to a close, Ofcom has awarded the penultimate of the 19 UK local TV licences to Bay TV Liverpool.
Ofcom received five applications for the Liverpool licence which is expected to cover around 890,000 homes across the Merseyside region as well as the city itself.
An IPTV provider that has been in operation since November 2011, Bay TV Liverpool believes that it delivers aconstantly expanding menu of programmes and commercial content to an audience hungry for truly relevant local content. At present most of Bay's content is delivered on a video-on-demand (VOD) basis, but it says that it is also developing the capacity to stream programmes live.
Yet in assigning the local TV licence, UK broadcast and telecoms regulator Ofcom has stipulated that services run over a digital terrestrial TV (DTT) network. However, Ofcom recognises that as well as broadcasting on DTT, it is anticipated that local TV channels might also wish to offer their services on satellite, cable and online.
