Irdeto is aiming to square for FilmFlex the user demand for premium content across as many devices as possible against content owners’ fears of piracy.
The white-label movies-on-demand solutions provider — whose customers include Virgin Media, Everything Everywhere (EE) and Film 4 — is to use the ActiveCloak suite of media protection solutions to ensure that content running on iOS and Android smartphones and tablets is secured in accordance with studio guidelines.
The security provider says that making sure companies such as FilmFlex are able to extend its services onto new devices much more easily is of paramount importance as they build out over-the-top (OTT) offerings in line with changing consumer habits. With its new media protection solution, FilmFlex has a secure implementation of Microsoft PlayReady Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology enabling digital entertainment services across devices and software applications, with a specific focus on meeting the needs of content owners, network operators, service providers and device manufacturers.
“As we deal with around 30 different content distributors, including all of the major Hollywood studios and the UK’s leading independents, the fact that Irdeto’s media protection solutions are already approved by studios for other big-name customers around the world makes extending our services onto new devices easier. Content security is paramount as we expand our proposition in to more devices for our white-label clients,” explained Greig Hilton, COO at FilmFlex.
“This was an ideal relationship when you consider what each party brings to the table. Irdeto can help us to protect our business model by securely delivering this content on the latest consumer devices. With Irdeto as our partner, we can remain focused on expanding FilmFlex’s leading position into new clients, platforms, devices and markets.”
