M6 buys Spanish soap Grand Hotel, Arte on board for Alatriste

German company Beta Film has sold M6 the French rights to season one of Spain's longest-running soap, Grand Hotel, also known as the Iberian Downton Abbey.
The 60-episode show, produced by Bambu Producciones for Telecinco, has also been licensed to channels in UK, Russia and Austria. M6 is also eyeing up the format which has already been picked up in Italy for a local remake.
At MIPTV in Cannes, Beta Film, whose line-up comprises 300 new hours, also announced that the French -German channel Arte has come on board its upcoming series Alatriste. Arte will co-produce the 13-hour series from DLO, which has been adapted from a Spanish novel by Arturo-Perez Reverte, with Telecinco and Beta.
Shot in English and set in the 15th century Spanish court, the series production will start in the summer. It will star the Spanish actor Aitor Luna.
Beta Film will be handling international distribution.
