The free-to-air channels of German commercial broadcast group Mediengruppe RTL Deutschland will become available as live streams on the Internet TV platform Zattoo in Germany in mid-2013.
RTL, VOX, n-tv, RTL Nitro, Super RTL and RTL II will join the fee-based HD package Zattoo HiQ which is available from 3.75 per month and doesn't contain commercials between channel switching. The RTL collaboration marks a strategy change for Zattoo as for the first time, channels will be offered only as part of Zattoo HiQ and not in parallel on the free-of-charge basic service.
The Zattoo live streams can be received with a PC via the Zattoo website (http://www.zattoo.com) and on other devices connected to the Internet such as smartphones, tablets, connected TVs, Xbox 360 and the VideoWeb TV box.

"Through the distribution by Zattoo, viewers will get a further possibility to receive our linear free-to-air channels on the Internet," said Andre Prahl, RTL's head of distribution. "We will thereby provide another alternative in particular for users wanting to receive our programmes wirelessly by WLAN on devices such as a tablet or smartphone."
Zattoo already contains all channels from Germany's public broadcasters ARD and ZDF, smaller commercial channels like DMAX, Das Vierte, N24 and Sport1, as well as international channels.
