Pathé Thuis, one of Holland’s leading online video-on-demand (VOD) services, has selected end-to-end online video management provider Xstream to deliver Widevine DRM for iOS and Android content delivery.

The company is the online video division of the famous Pathé cinema firm and offers premium HD quality movies on multiple connected devices in The Netherlands. Pathé Thuis has a strategy to offer consumers premium content on all devices, in direct response to their demand, in particular iOS and Android devices, with studio-approved Widevine DRM content protection and encryption.
“As an over-the-top movie service, DRM solutions are critical to our capability to securely deliver premium content to the endpoints where our viewers want us to be,” explained Thomas van de Weerd, managing director at Pathé Thuis. “By partnering with Xstream … now we're able to deploy first-class video experiences across new devices to consumers at a cost that makes sense for our organisation and our market."
As Certified Widevine Implementation Partner, Xstream created a 360 DRM solution that automates the processes associated with DRM, allowing Pathé Thuis to securely deliver content and protect their content partnerships. Cloud-based Google Widevine DRM and Microsoft PlayReady is incorporated in Xstream’s ingest service, offered as a standalone service or as part of its MediaMaker video management system.
"We are delighted to be chosen by one of Holland’s successful online film services, Pathé Thuis as Google Widevine implementation partner. It is recognition of the great knowledge and experience that Xstream have gained over the last 13 years within DRM technology", added Xstream CEO Frank Thorup. “By taking advantage of our DRM technology, Pathé Thuis can bolster their premium video content initiatives and capitalise on the growing popularity of long-form, premium video content on mobile devices.”
