euronews has announced that the launch of its 24-hour Hungarian news service will take place on Thursday 30 May.

The service will be available immediately through major European and Hungarian TV networks, as well as on the euronews live app and on YouTube via the official Hungarian euronews channel.

euronews Hungarian will be available across the whole of Europe thanks to the Eutelsat Hot Bird 13A satellite. The channel will gradually be integrated into packages on cable, satellite and IPTV and DTT.

Viewers can gain exclusive access 24 hours before the channel goes live on and on the euronews express smartphone app.

This, euronews' 13th linguistic service, will be its second to be adapted locally following the Greek service launched in December 2012 and will be broadcast from Euronews' HQ in Lyon.

The wholly-owned Hungarian subsidiary of euronews Hungary Kft, located in the centre of Budapest, will soon host the Hungarian editorial team. The subsidiary is wholly owned by the euronews group and employs 30 media professionals, including 20 journalists.

"Strengthening the euronews network with a new editorial team gives the channel a competitive advantage which will boost its success, particularly here in Central Europe," said Michael Peters, CEO of euronews.

euronews is currently already available to 816,000 subscribers in Hungary through platforms such as UPC Hungary, Maygar Telcom, MinDIG, Invitel and Antenna Hungary, in both English and German.
