Austria's national telco A1 Telekom Austria is planning a hybrid package combining its IPTV platform A1 TV with DTH satellite television.
A1 TV Sat will be rolled out nationwide in Austria this year, the company announced in Vienna at the celebration of A1 TV's ten-year anniversary.
With the new proposition, households with a satellite dish will be able to combine the advantages of satellite TV with IPTV. Currently, trials are underway in selected regions.
In neighbouring Germany, Deutsche Telekom is already offering such a hybrid product. Customers of Entertain Sat receive TV, radio and HDTV including Astra's HD+ platform through the Astra satellite system at 19.2° East, while interactive services such as the video-on-demand (VOD) portal Videoload, the TV archive and telephone and Internet access are received via ADSL.
