A new HD channel showing movies and series is set to launch in Venezuela to increase DTT programming while the digital TV network is established.
The channel will only broadcast national productions, said Communications Minister, Ernesto Villegas.
"We are on the verge of launching SiBCI HD, one step more on the way to offering better TV, not only from a technical point of view, but also from a content perspective," explained Villegas.
The announcement was made during a meeting in Caracas to check the progress of the DTT process in Venezuela. Technology, content production and new rules were examined by the Government, which set a route map for the future.
"There is one commission to focus on the law and it is thinking about whether to leave the TV system as it is now or change it to a single-operator system," explained Pedro Maldonado, president of the national telecom authority.
As well as the public institutions, the meeting was attended by Vive, Villa del Cine, CNTI, Cendir, RedTV, Colombeia, TeleSUR, ANTV, TVES, VTV, Ávila TV and Conciencia TV.
